WMDC 6.1 is hangs on "Searching Windows Update"
We're deploying Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 to Windows 7 SP1 x86.
When the software is installed with SCCM the desktop is searching Windows Update for drivers.
Also when I connect a Smartphone or PDA WMDC is hangs on searching Windows Update.
this proces will take a long time (10 minutes or so) .
The desktops haven't got access to Windows Update so we've set the policy
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730606(WS.10).aspx
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Internet Communication Management\Internet Communication settings
Turn off Windows Update device driver searching
This setting is also applied on the Desktops and Laptops according to rsop.msc.
But WMDC is still searching Windows Update.
How can I disable this search?

Hi,
“Turn off Windows Update device driver searching” is not support on Windows 7, it support on Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003,
and Windows XP SP2.
And when after installing WMDC 6.1, it will search Windows Update to download and install
Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update. Base on my test and research, that seems cannot disable the search for
that update.
Thank you for your understanding.

That's strange. The description of this policy does indeed not mention Windows 7.
However, the technet article does mention Windows 7
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753091.aspx
And how come that this policy is locally present (gpedit.msc).
So there's no way to disable searching Windows Update for drivers on Windows 7?

Found it!
When I set the policy:
On Group Policy Editor snap-in under Computer Configuration expand Administrative
Templates and expand System.
From expanded list select Device Installation and from the right pane double click on Specify
search order for device driver source locations. On the opened window select Enabled radio button and in the Options section
from the drop-down list choose Do not search Windows Update.
Windows 7 isn't trying to search Windows update anymore. Also works for WMDC!
